Conversation with State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond

We don’t have to wait until elections on June 2nd to support our schools. As someone who wants to thoroughly understand everything we can do to support our educators and students, I had the greatest honor and privilege to sit down and chat with our state superintendent of public instruction @Tony Thurmond. Previously, we spent over an hour just talking about opportunities that exist, such as state grants and scholarships and the abundance of opportunities I can tackle through the Learning Policy Institute https://learningpolicyinstitute.org/  Superintendent Thurmond graciously invited me to a special event where I was also able to further hear his plans as a candidate for Governor and of course, I walked into a room full of familiar trailblazers doing the heart work everyday in our community. He has a vision to help working families with the rising cost of living, which include building affordable housing for teachers, school staff and even nurses on surplus district land. He also championed in implementing the state’s universal school meals program that offers free breakfast and lunch to every public K-12 student, regardless of income, secured $41.3B for the California Community Schools Partnership Program that a number of our GUSD schools are lucky to have, which supports students overall health and well-being. He also fought the federal government to release BILLIONS of federal K-12 funding that was withheld or paused that would have been disastrous for our Title I schools, after-school programs, English-learner support, teacher development and other core services had it not been released. It’s so important to learn what each candidate stands for as we know we have a very competitive race ahead for governor. #teamdinkjian #glendale #publicschools #sisepuede
